Dream Symbolism and Analysis

We will use a real dream example to illustrate the process of dream analysis and interpretation.
To uphold the privacy of the Dream Subject, let’s give him a fictitious name call Alex.

In the dream scene, Alex opens a door and enters what seems like a room. In the room, there seems to be someone or something. It cannot be seem and is felt as an invisible presence.

In the dream scene described above, there are dream symbols within. If you use the Dream Diary Assistant, the software will help by highlighting possible dream symbols within the type-written dream scene.

The symbols are listed below:

Door: may be referring to potential opportunities. The action of opening the door may symbolises the ‘opening’ of an opportunity.

Room: House, Building represent self. The rooms represent various aspects of it. Also represents body.

Invisible Presence: This Presence could mean a part of self. The fact that it is unseen thus invisible could mean that this part or personality of the self is not consciously being aware by the dreamer. It is a part of his or her character that the dreamer is not aware of.

Our Analysis of the Dream

Alex’s entering of the room signifies that he is coming into contact with a characteristic/part of himself. Because the Presence is unseen, he was, at the time of the dream, not consciously aware of this tendency of himself.

Nevertheless, he should be able to better understand this aspect of himself, in the future, since the door was opened.

That’s it. Hope that the general dream interpretation process is clearly illustrated here and is easy to replicate.
